Axpona 2014 was no exception, everything went well and as planned (except for a fire alarm on Saturday).
The rooms were beautiful though offered sonic challenges due to some slap-echo. Exhibitors who tamed this were rewarded with superior sound.
The show's stand out exhibit was the Merrill Audio and Sadurni Acoustics room. The size, scope and sound of the Sadurni Staccato horns was breathtaking.
The United Home Audio and Jodida room was disappointing until the last day. Greg Beron worked late Saturday night to tame the demons. The Metallica mastertape copy was simply splendid.
The Stella Utopia's driven by Aesthetx electronics in one of the Quintessence rooms was extraordinary with the Será Una Noche 45 rpm LP by MA Recordings.
For shear naturalness, the Polymer Audio Research room was not to be beat. If you value non fatiguing detail this was the room for you.
Overall though, the best sound went to GTT Audio & Video. Bill Parish assembled a winning team sourced from the new Kronos Sparta table with YG Haileys, Audionet electronics and Kubala-Sosna cables.
The Gold Show winners should be proud of their achievements.
